Dreamy D is a dark, psychedelic rock band from Charlotte, North Carolina. The eclectic group, fronted by Donnie Doolittle, takes influence from a variety of artists such as Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazlewood, Johnny Paycheck, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Timber Timbre, John Carpenter and Neurosis. Dreamy D has featured a rotating cast of several different collaborators, most notably, members of Funeral Chic, U.S. Christmas, Foreign Air, Yank, and Pure Adult.
Dreamy D’s first album, Hard Forever, debuted in October 2017. The album was recorded live to tape by Chris Garges at Fidelitorium Recordings in Kernersville, North Carolina. Due to the nature of its documentation, the album, wavering from doomy psychedelia to melodramatic piano ballads, exudes a raw, organic force. Such unadulterated energy was concentrated into Dreamy D’s 2018 singles, “Silver Eye” and “Same”.
Most recently, Doolittle has collaborated with friend and fellow North Carolinian Jesse Clasen (Foreign Air, ex-HRVRD) in the writing, producing, and engineering of Dreamy D’s upcoming release, Got a Feeling. The album explores new sonic territory for the group. The songs are groove-driven and heavily layered, giving prominence to large, captivating choruses. The result is a darkly psychedelic rock album with some melancholic plays on pop sensibility. The album, due to be released in 2020, is dedicated to the memory of Dreamy D guitarist, Noah Warner, who passed away in the summer of 2019. A follow-up and elaboration on the songs of Got a Feeling is due to be recorded later in 2020.
